Listen up ladies and gentlemen, as I stated in my last article war is coming. We all know as colder weather approaches us, so does dryer hair. Although this battle is challenging to conquer, I can assure you it isn't impossible. I mentioned something called protective styles in my previous post. The term is pretty self-explanatory so you may have already guessed its purpose. Protective styles are stylish hairstyles meant to help protect your hair (mainly your ends). They can range from all types of forms and techniques, but their main goal is to keep your hands out your hair. When we wear our hair out most of us tend to touch it ALL THE TIME. You may be a natural who prefers restyle hair often or one that loves touching their hair. Whatever your excuse may be your hair is the last place your hands should live. Touching your hair excessively leads to breakage, similar to neglecting it. If you notice your hair has been breaking off more than usual lately, there could be a number of reasons why. You may be struggling with anything ranging from weather, over manipulation, or neglection. Whatever your reason may be, maybe I can help you get back on the right track. The following list are protective styles that often surface through our hair community.

1.) Braids and weaves

These are always the main to do for a lot of people. The prices can range all across the chart, it’s worth it. I’m not saying to go out and pay $300 to get your hair done or anything, but with a reasonable price. As a bonus, these are keys to hair growth.

2.) Styling your hair in a way that doesn’t require you to redo you hair everyday

There are multiple different works to style your hair that does require you to do your hair daily. Although this kind of piggy backs off of number one, a style that is pretty common is braiding your own hair. When you do this the world is your oyster in a way. Even though your hair is braided you can still explore with tons or styles.

3.) Buns

For me, while I was going through my transition stage buns were my best friends. With buns you can honestly wear the some style for a week straight and barely have to touch anything up. On top of that they’re pretty easy (If you have enough hair).

4.)Scarfs

I’m pretty sure it is safe to say scarfs/bandanas have been a lifesaver for most of us. Whether our hair is a complete mess or we just don’t feel like dealing with it, your hair can still look amazing with the right scarf design and technique. To get an idea on how to be a pro at wrapping scarfs, I recommend checking out this video by YouTuber, Brandi Lofton.

All the styles I have listed are pretty good and common ways naturals protect their hair. Even though I gave you a list, don’t think you’re limited to doing only this styles. You can even come up with your own, after all how do you think these current styles became a thing! If I come up with any other ideas I’ll be sure to let you guys know.
